Branham wins wild Late Model show; Begor, LaVair take double-point victories

Ron Proctor waited nearly two years to carry a checkered flag at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, but the wait became worth it as the veteran driver won the double-points Rutland Herald Mid-Season Championship in dominant fashion on Friday, July 18. Stock car racer Todd Stone is in a familiar position entering Friday’s Rutland Herald Mid-Season Championships at Devil’s Bowl Speedway: Out front. The Middlebury, VT driver dominated the Bond Auto Parts Modified division in NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action last season and though he holds the lead again this summer, his climb to the top hasn’t been as easy as it was a year ago. Emily Packard made stock car racing history at Vermont’s Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday, July 11. The East Montpelier, VT native – who will enter her senior year at Union 32 High School this fall – set two records at the Rutland County track, becoming the youngest driver to win a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series event in the Late Model division at 17 years, six months, 10 days, and by becoming the first woman to win in the division. Devil’s Bowl Speedway provided the fireworks, but it was young Late Model stock car racing stars Josh Masterson and Emily Packard in charge of the show on Friday, July 4. Masterson and Packard waged an exciting battle for the Coca-Cola Firecracker 100 victory that brought the largest grandstand crowd in the track’s asphalt era to their feet. An action-packed night of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series stock car racing at Devil’s Bowl Speedway was capped by an unpredictable finale and two first-time feature winners. Johnny Scarborough and Todd Stone split victories in the top-tier Modifieds as Chuck Bradford and Kyle Watrous each won Mini Stock features, and Robert Gordon and Scott MacMichael repeated in the Renegade and SK Light classes, respectively.
