WATERBURY -- Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl officials released the 2012 schedule on Tuesday for the 53rd season of auto racing at the track located in Barre. The schedule is highlighted by the 50th People’s United Bank Milk Bowl to be held on Sunday, Sept. 30.
The American-Canadian Tour Merchants Bank 150 will reside as the annual lid-lifter for Thunder Road on the weekend of April 28 and 29. A three week break follows the opening event before the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic on May 27.
Two Sunday twilight races will start Thunder Road’s weekly racing, scheduled for June 10 and June 17. Traditional Thursday night racing resumes at Thunder Road on June 21, the start of ten straight Thursday night races.
The VT Governor’s Cup will will be raced a few weeks later than in 2011, scheduled for July 12. The Times Argus Mid-season Championships will take place a week later on July 19 for the annual double championship point affair.
The Bond WIX Tiger Tour 100 for the ACT Tiger Sportsman will take place on Thursday, August 2, while the Late Model “King of the Road” will be decided on the Thursday night finale on August 23. Special events during the season include the traditional 4th of July celebration on Tuesday, July 3 and the annual M&M Beverages Enduro 200 on Sunday, August 5.
The Thunder Road season concludes with its two biggest events -- the ACT Late Model Tour Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200 on Sunday, September 2, and the 50th People’s United Bank Milk Bowl on the weekend of September 29 and 30.
